1. Who We Are
Rateglint is an independent online publication that provides informational articles, guides, and comparisons related to personal finance in the United States. The Site is operated by Rateglint, and we are the party responsible for the personal information processed through it.
This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through https://rateglint.com and any subdomains we control. It does not apply to third-party websites we link to, which maintain their own privacy practices.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in two ways: information you choose to give us, and information that is gathered automatically when you use the Site.
Information you provide directly
Most visitors read our articles without giving us any personal information at all. You only share data with us if you choose to:
- Contact us by email. When you write to info@rateglint.com, we receive your email address, your name (if you include it), and the contents of your message.
- Submit a form on the Site (such as a contact or feedback form), if one is available. We collect the fields you complete, typically your name, email address, and message.
- Subscribe to a newsletter or updates, if offered. We collect your email address for that purpose.
Information collected automatically
Like virtually all websites, when you visit the Site our servers and third-party tools automatically record certain technical information, including:
- Your IP address and general location (such as country or region, not your precise address).
- Your browser type and version, operating system, and device type.
- The pages you view, the date and time of your visit, and how long you stay.
- The website or search engine that referred you to us, and the links you click.
This information is collected through cookies, server logs, and similar technologies, and is generally used in aggregate to keep the Site secure and to understand how readers use our content.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
- To operate, maintain, and secure the Site, and to fix technical problems.
- To respond to your emails, questions, and requests.
- To understand how visitors find and use our articles, so we can improve our content.
- To display advertising and to measure how those ads perform.
- To send updates or newsletters you have specifically requested (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or violations of our terms.
- To comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
4. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the Site and our partners to recognize your browser, remember preferences, measure traffic, and serve advertising. We use both first-party cookies (set by Rateglint) and third-party cookies (set by services such as Google).
The main categories of cookies used on the Site are:
| Category | What it does | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Enable core functions like page navigation and basic security. The Site cannot work properly without them. | Rateglint (first-party) |
| Analytics / performance | Help us understand which articles are read, how visitors navigate, and where to improve. Used in aggregate. | Google Analytics (third-party) |
| Advertising | Used to serve ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and (unless you opt out) personalize ads based on your activity. | Google AdSense & advertising partners (third-party) |
| Functional / preference | Remember choices you make, such as consent settings, for a smoother experience. | Rateglint & partners |
You can control cookies in several ways. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings, and you can refuse non-essential cookies through any consent banner we display. If you block all cookies, some parts of the Site may not function as intended. For detailed guidance on managing cookies in popular browsers, see the resources at aboutcookies.org.
5. Advertising & Google AdSense
Rateglint is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense, Google’s advertising program, to display ads on the Site. The following disclosures are required by Google and explain how advertising cookies work:
Google AdSense disclosures
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Rateglint or to other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s ad settings in My Ad Center.
- Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info.
To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, please review Google’s “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services” page, along with the Google Privacy Policy.
More ways to control advertising
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI): For guidance on opting out of member advertising companies, visit thenai.org/how-to-opt-out.
- European users: You can manage choices from participating ad networks at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Browser-level signals: Many advertising partners honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, which you can enable in supported browsers and extensions to communicate your opt-out preference automatically.
6. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to measure and analyze Site traffic. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as how often visitors come to the Site, which pages they view, and what other sites referred them. We use this information in aggregate to improve our content and the reader experience; we do not use it to identify you personally.
Google may process this data in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from using your data by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
7. How We Share Information
We may share information with:
- Service providers who help us operate the Site, such as hosting providers, analytics services, email tools, and advertising partners. They may only use the information to perform services for us.
- Advertising partners (including Google), which receive certain device and usage information through cookies as described in Section 5. Under some U.S. privacy laws, the use of advertising cookies may be treated as “sharing” or a “sale” of personal information; you can opt out using the tools above.
- Legal and safety recipients, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Rateglint, our users, or the public.
- A successor entity, if Rateglint is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will require that your information remain protected under terms consistent with this policy.
8. Data Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy. Emails and form submissions are retained for as long as needed to respond to and document your request, and then deleted or archived. Aggregate analytics and log data are retained according to the default retention periods of the tools we use, such as Google Analytics. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymize it.
9. Data Security
The Site is served over a secure HTTPS connection, and we rely on reputable providers that maintain industry-standard safeguards to protect the information they process on our behalf. While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights regarding your personal information. To exercise any right, email us at info@rateglint.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what categories of personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it.
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information (note: we do not collect sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics).
To opt out of advertising-related sharing, you can use the ad opt-out tools in Section 5 and enable the Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, which we treat as a valid opt-out request where applicable. You may also submit a request by email.
Other U.S. states
If you reside in a state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law — such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and a growing number of others — you may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising. You can exercise these rights by contacting us at the email above.
EEA, UK & Switzerland (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Where we rely on consent (for example, for advertising or analytics cookies), you may withdraw it at any time. We process your data on the legal bases of your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Site, and compliance with legal obligations. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Children’s Privacy
The Site is intended for a general, adult audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and consistent with Google’s policies, we do not serve ads targeted to minors. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at info@rateglint.com and we will promptly delete it.
12. Third-Party Links
Our articles may link to third-party websites — such as government agencies, official data sources, or other resources — for your reference. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any website you visit through a link on the Site.
13. Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting. Because there is no common industry standard for how DNT signals should be interpreted, the Site does not respond to DNT signals at this time. However, we do recognize the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, and where required by applicable law we treat a GPC signal as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
14. International Users
Rateglint is based in, and operated for, the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate, which may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. By using the Site, you understand that your information may be processed in these locations.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the Site after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
