About Rateglint

An independent editorial desk for people who want straight, honest answers about their money.

Hi, I’m Sergio R. Vila, and I built Rateglint for a simple reason: finance should not feel impossible to understand.

Why I Started Rateglint

Mortgages, loans, credit cards, interest rates, debt, banking rules — from the outside, all of it can look like it was designed to confuse ordinary people instead of helping them. I’ve watched how lost people feel when they’re about to sign something big, and how often the part that truly matters is buried in fine print that nobody bothers to explain.

Rateglint is my answer to that. It’s where I research the market, read the small print, and turn complicated financial topics into clear, plain-English guides. The idea is simple: before you ever sit down with a lender or an advisor, you should already understand what you’re looking at — so you ask better questions, you spot the catches, and you’re much harder to mislead.

Who’s Behind Rateglint

I’m a content creator with a strong interest in finance and technology, and I spent about four years working as a financial advisor. That experience shaped how I see this site: I saw firsthand how overwhelming the system feels for regular people, and how much depends on the details most of us skip over.

Let me be honest about what I am and what I’m not. I’m not a licensed financial expert, and I won’t pretend to be one. What I am is someone who studies the market closely, digs into official data, checks the facts, and writes them down as clearly as I can. My promise isn’t that I’ll make your decisions for you. It’s that I’ll do the homework, lay out the real options and the risks, and point you toward trustworthy places to get proper, professional advice when you need it.

What Rateglint Is — and Isn’t

Rateglint is not a bank, a lender, a mortgage broker, or a financial advisory firm. I don’t sell financial products, and I don’t earn commissions for steering you toward one. This site is independent — and that independence is exactly what lets me tell you the parts other people leave out.

How I Research and Write

Behind every loan application, every credit score, and every mortgage payment, there’s a real person trying to make a good decision. That’s who I write for, and my work follows three simple rules:

Clear and practical

I strip away the jargon and explain things the way a smart friend would.

Research-driven

I ground every article in current data from official U.S. sources.

Written for people

I write for readers facing real decisions, not for institutions.

When I cite a figure, a rule, or a rate, I base it on authoritative U.S. sources — such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Reserve, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), and Freddie Mac. Finance changes fast, so I check the numbers against official data and update articles when the rules change.

How Rateglint Is Funded

Rateglint is free to read. I keep it running through advertising, including Google AdSense. Ads stay clearly separate from the articles, and no advertiser has any say in what I write or the conclusions I reach. My editorial judgment isn’t for sale.

Important Financial Disclosure

The content on Rateglint is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not personal financial, legal, tax, investment, or mortgage advice, and reading it does not create any advisor-client or professional relationship between you and Rateglint or me.

Everyone’s situation is different. Your income, credit history, location, lender, and personal goals can completely change what the right decision looks like. Before applying for a loan, signing a mortgage, or making any major financial move, always verify the details with official sources and speak with a qualified, licensed professional.
